WINTERPORT, MAINE – Maine Senate President Mike Thibodeau today announced his candidacy for governor.
“This is our time to fight for the future of our state,” Thibodeau said. “We need to come together to reign in the growth of government not only to preserve Maine’s unique way of life, but to protect our freedoms. We need to continue to improve our economy, create more jobs, and educate our children so they can live and work here at home.”
A native of Winterport, Thibodeau joined his father and brothers in the small family construction company after graduating from high school. Together they grew that company from a single employee to one that provided jobs for more than 200 employees – becoming one of the largest construction companies in Maine by 2007 when they sold the business. In 2013 he and his wife Stacy started Mt. Waldo Plastics, Maine’s only snow shovel manufacturing company. Thibodeau and his brother also own TB Equipment, a New Holland tractor dealership in Bangor.
“Through hard work, and dedicated employees who believed in us, my family and I were able to live the American dream,” Thibodeau continued. “But for many Mainer’s the American dream is something that can only be found outside of our state’s borders. We must change that for this generation and the ones to come. As your governor, that need for continued change will guide our work and inspire our vision for a better Maine.”
The Thibodeau for Governor campaign will be co-chaired by Bob Emrich of Plymouth and Kevin Raye of Perry. Emrich is the pastor of Emmanuel Bible Baptist Church and a former Board Chairman of the Christian Civic League of Maine. Raye represented Washington County in the Maine Senate for four terms and served as Senate President from 2010 to 2012.
“Mike Thibodeau is a great combination of honesty, integrity, and work ethic,” Emrich said. “His integrity is a product of his faith. At the state house he has been a conservative voice of reason. I’m proud to be part of his campaign, and I know he’ll make Maine proud as governor.”
“I’ve seen Mike Thibodeau stand up for the people of Maine in the legislature, and there’s no question he’d continue the same principled leadership as governor,” said Raye. “His leadership has provided historic results for Republicans – winning back to back majorities in the Maine Senate for the first time in 36 years. I couldn’t be more excited about this campaign, and I look forward to our Republican Party uniting behind him as our nominee.”
Thibodeau served 2 terms in the Maine House of Representatives, and is currently in his fourth term as State Senator representing Waldo County. He was twice unanimously elected by his colleagues to serve as Maine Senate President. In Maine, the Senate President serves as next in line for gubernatorial succession. Thibodeau is the longest serving Republican Senate President alive.
Mike and his wife Stacy are the parents of two adult daughters, both of whom are married, working, and raising families in Maine
